Sunday Recreational Activity | Gurmukhi Calligraphy Workshop

As part of the Sunday Recreational Activity, a Gurmukhi Calligraphy (Akharkari) Workshop was conducted for students. Calligraphy is practised in many styles and languages across the world. Gurmukhi Akharkari is one such form, referring to the artistic writing and decorative representation of Gurmukhi letters, where Akhar (ਅੱਖਰ) means letter and Kari (ਕਾਰੀ) means artistic craftsmanship or creative work.
Students were introduced to the fundamentals of Traditional, Modern and Digital Gurmukhi Calligraphy, along with the tools used in this art form, including brush pens, bamboo pens, handmade paper and ink. During the first workshop, students learnt about the calligraphy pen, ink, the correct way to hold the pen, and the basic strokes used in Gurmukhi calligraphy.
Learning Gurmukhi Akharkari helps students improve creativity, develop patience and concentration, preserve their cultural identity, strengthen their connection with the Gurmukhi script, and cultivate mindfulness through artistic expression. It also nurtures a deeper understanding of their rich heritage, language, culture and traditions.
Art becomes even more meaningful when it preserves language, culture and heritage.

Live Art Session | Fabric & Pottery Painting

Students of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), Grades 1–5, participated in a Live Art Session with Mrs. Santosh, a distinguished artist. The session introduced students to fabric painting and pottery painting, where they explored different textures, techniques and colours under the artist's guidance through an experiential learning approach.
Fabric Painting – Students experienced the joy of transforming plain fabric into vibrant works of art through simple painting techniques and creative expression.
Flower pots and decorative pieces were created from recycled bottles and pottery, reinforcing the concept of recycling and demonstrating how creativity can transform everyday materials into meaningful works of art.
During the interaction with Mrs. Santosh, students also inquired about the rules, techniques and creative processes involved in different art forms. The live art session encouraged imagination, creativity and environmental responsibility among IB PYP learners.

Miri Piri Diwas marks the occasion when Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, the Sixth Guru Sahib, was ceremonially seated on the throne of Guruship and adorned with two swords, symbolising Miri (temporal authority) and Piri (spiritual authority).

Piri signifies spiritual sovereignty rooted in devotion to the Divine.
Miri symbolises the responsibility to uphold justice, protect the oppressed, and resist tyranny.
Through this act, Guru Sahib declared that spirituality could never remain detached from the realities of society. A truly spiritual life also demands the courage to defend righteousness and uphold the dignity of all humanity.
The doctrine of Miri-Piri does not advocate the pursuit of political power for its own sake. Rather, it teaches that temporal authority must always remain guided by spiritual principles. Governance without morality can become oppressive, while spirituality that withdraws from the suffering of society remains incomplete.
Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji united these two dimensions into a harmonious ideal, teaching that one should cultivate humility before the Divine while displaying courage in the face of injustice.
The principle of Miri-Piri remains profoundly relevant today. In a world often marked by conflict, inequality and moral uncertainty, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji's vision reminds us that true strength is never measured by power alone. It is reflected in the ability to combine compassion with courage, humility with confidence, and faith with responsible action. Miri-Piri inspires individuals to become active contributors to society, people who stand for truth, protect the vulnerable and work for the common good while remaining spiritually grounded.
The message of Miri-Piri holds profound significance for students as well. Education is not only the pursuit of academic excellence but also the cultivation of character. Knowledge acquires its highest purpose when guided by integrity, empathy, and a commitment to service.
A student inspired by Miri-Piri strives to excel intellectually while demonstrating:

To inculcate the habit of reading among students, the Book Fair is being organised for students from Nursery to Grade 12, featuring a wide range of books across diverse genres for readers of all age groups. From timeless classics and inspiring biographies to engaging fiction, science, adventure, activity and motivational books, the fair offers books for every reader.
The Book Fair was inaugurated by Hon'ble Dr. Davinder Singh Ji (The President of Kalgidhar Trust), accompanied by Dr. Neelam Kaur, students, international campers from the ongoing Akal International Gurmat Camp, Principal and teachers.
With a shared love for reading, students, teachers and international campers explored the books of different genres together.

Chemistry Drama – Fake Injury, where students created artificial blood using chemical reactions, demonstrating how science can recreate realistic effects.
The Chemistry of Elephant Toothpaste, showcasing fascinating chemical reactions.
Physics
Tug of War Activity demonstrating the concepts of Force, Friction, and Equilibrium through active participation.
Laser Light Demonstration explaining Snell's Law and Total Internal Reflection (TIR), along with their real-world applications in fibre optic communication, medical endoscopy, and high-speed data networks.
Biology
Diseases and Vaccines Awareness Session, helping students understand immunity, vaccination, disease prevention, and their importance in public health.
DNA Extraction from Banana Pulp, enabling students to observe genetic material with their own eyes.
Throughout the session, students participated in interactive science challenges, testing their understanding, identifying misconceptions, and discovering how scientific principles apply to everyday life.
