DEAR (DROP EVERYTHING AND READ)
April 12 is known as D.E.A.R Day! D.E.A.R. stands for “Drop Everything and Read,” a month-long celebration of reading designed to remind folks of all ages to make reading a priority activity in their lives. The drop everything and read (DEAR) strategy involves getting learners to stop what they are doing and read for 10 minutes. It is a method that helps build learners’ literacy. The DROP activity was organized in the school for all the classes using the following strategy:
- Introduce a topic with the initial information to engage the class.
- Set a 10-minute silent reading task based on the topic.
- Discuss what was read with comprehension prompts.
